If your anthurium has stopped flowering… I’ve been there.
For months, mine had healthy leaves but zero blooms. It looked fine — just not thriving. I almost gave up and bought expensive fertilizers.
But instead, I tried something incredibly simple: used coffee grounds.
And the result?
👉 My anthurium started blooming… and didn’t stop all winter.
☕ Why Coffee Grounds?
Used coffee grounds are more than just kitchen waste. They contain:
- Nitrogen → supports strong, green leaves
- Trace minerals → help overall plant health
- Mild acidity → perfect for anthuriums (they prefer slightly acidic soil)
It’s like a gentle, natural boost — not too harsh like chemical fertilizers.
🧪 How I Used It (Very Important)
I didn’t just dump coffee into the pot — that’s where many people go wrong.
Here’s what I did:
Method 1 (What worked best for me):
- Took used coffee grounds (already brewed)
- Let them dry completely
- Sprinkled a thin layer on top of the soil
- Lightly mixed it into the top layer
Method 2 (Safer option):
- Mixed a small amount of coffee grounds with water
- Used it as a mild liquid feed
📅 What Happened After
Week 1:
No visible change.
Week 2:
Leaves became darker and shinier 🌿
Week 3:
New leaf growth appeared.
Week 4–5:
👉 First flower bud formed
👉 Then another… and another
😳 The Surprising Part
The blooms didn’t just come back…
They lasted longer, and new ones kept appearing even in colder weather.
My plant went from “just surviving” to:
👉 Blooming continuously through winter
⚠️ Mistakes to Avoid
This is VERY important:
- ❌ Don’t use fresh (hot) coffee grounds
- ❌ Don’t add too much → can compact soil
- ❌ Don’t apply every day
✔ Best rule: once every 2–3 weeks is enough
💧 My Simple Routine Now
- Water normally
- Add coffee grounds occasionally
- Keep plant in bright indirect light
That’s it. Nothing fancy.
🌿 Final Thoughts
You don’t always need expensive fertilizers.
Sometimes, the simplest things — like something you throw away every morning — can completely change your plant.
If your anthurium hasn’t bloomed in a while…
this might be the easiest trick you’ll ever try.
