“Elf” star Zooey Deschanel and HGTV‘s Jonathan Scott have been a couple goal for many fans for years, which has left those fans wondering: When is their wedding finally going to happen? Now, she’s sharing a new update about the state of her plans. In a December episode of the “Call Her Daddy” podcast, Deschanel revealed that the couple is indeed planning their wedding, but finding the perfect venue has been challenging.

“It’s really like a lot of pressure, because [Jonathan] designs, like, incredible spaces,” the actress explained. She went on to share that the biggest obstacle has been finding a wedding venue that fits their vision without costing “a gazillion dollars.” Although she didn’t confirm a date for the wedding, it’s clear their plans are moving forward.

Deschanel & Scott Have ‘Fun’ Expectations for Their Wedding

As Deschanel pointed out during her interview, she and Scott have something in common when it comes to weddings: this isn’t their first rodeo. “We’ve both been married before,” she said. “So I’m like, this [wedding] has to be the most fun.” She added that the couple is focusing on what they want this time around.

Deschanel was first married to musician Ben Gibbard, whom she divorced in 2009. Her second marriage to producer Jacob Pechenik also ended in divorce in 2015, and the former couple shares two children. As the actress explained, she has been very candid about her past relationships and what she values now. “The thing is, it’s just all about chemistry,” she said. “He and I can be together, and it’s easy.”

The Couple Has Built a Blended Family

Blended families can be challenging, but Deschanel and Scott have consistently demonstrated their commitment to making it work. In August 2025, Scott posted an adorable Instagram video of himself navigating an airport with Deschanel’s two kids in tow. In the video, Elsie and Charlie ride on wheeled suitcases as Scott pushes them through the airport.

Fans in the comments section loved Scott’s hands-on approach to step-parenting. “You’re the best bonus dad, Jonathan!!” one fan wrote. “You got your dream of becoming a dad.” Deschanel has also posted photos of Scott and her children together over the years, often with appreciative captions about his involvement. Though the couple may still be a ways off from walking down the aisle, they are already embracing family life.
