Award-winning BBC Radio 2 DJ Trevor Nelson has revealed he is temporarily stepping away from work to deal with “health issues”. Although he showed up at the TRIC Awards on Tuesday, June 23, to collect a special gong, the 62-year-old has been absent from his usual slot for the past week. He has now taken to Instagram to explain he will be extending the break to focus on his health.
In a post featuring black text on a grey background he penned: “I wanted to let my followers, radio listeners and all my Soul Nation party-people know that I’m going to be taking a little break from my work commitments. Some of you may already have noticed that I’ve not been on my daily Radio 2 slot this week. After a routine check-up I was advised to have some follow up tests. As a result, I will be taking some further time off,” he confirmed.
Continuing, he wrote: “As I’m sure you can appreciate, with health issues it’s important to deal with facts and not speculate. So I’m concentrating on getting better, being back to 100% me and getting back behind the mic and the decks.”
His announcement comes just days after he collected a special award at the annual TRIC Awards in Grosvenor House, London.
Trevor’s friends and colleagues flooded him with support following his announcement. Commenting on his post radio legend Tony Blackburn wrote: “So sorry to hear you’re having health problems, Trevor. Get well soon and lots of love xx.”
Escape to the Country star Richie Anderson penned: “Get well soon, Trevor. You’re so loved mate. Look after yourself xx.”

Lauren Laverne chimed in: “Sending lots of love and keeping everything crossed for you. I know how that can feel – take it one step at a time and try not to jump ahead. xxx.”
DJ Norman Jaye added: “I’ve just returned home myself after 2 ‘traumatic’ weeks in hospital. So I couldn’t agree with you more there brotha Trev. Facing down any health challenges must be your no 1 priority. Sending much [love] and healing vibes.”
Meanwhile axed Strictly It Takes Two star Fleur East said: “Take your time. Health is everything.”
