‘All we heard was screaming police cars’
Another neighbour has told WalesOnline that all they could hear at first was “screaming police cars”.
He said: “I’ve lived here all of my life, It’s a lovely quiet village.
“What’s happened is absolutely terrible. Truly I feel nothing other than heartfelt sorrow for the family.
“After hearing the police cars I thought, ‘what is going on?’ So me and some other neighbours came out to see. Someone said they could smell smoke, so at first we thought maybe it was a fire, or a car crash.
“Our mind never would have taken us to what had really happened. When we found out how bad it really was, we all went back inside.”

‘The village is in mourning’
Labour councillor for the Rogiet ward Peter Strong told BBC Radio Wales that the village “is in mourning” after the death of a nine-month-old baby in a dog attack on Sunday evening.
He said:
The village is in mourning today. [There is] a deep and profound sense of shock that such a thing should happen in the midst of our quiet community.
A baby is a deep source of joy and love and to lose a baby in these circumstances is just awful and we can’t even begin to imagine the sense of grief that the family are feeling this morning.
We’re a friendly community, we are blessed with many people who devote themselves to the care of those who live around them and I’m sure they will stand together today and I just appeal for people to be calm, to give the family the space that they need to grieve in peace.
I would like to thank the police and the other emergency services who attended the scene last night. I’m sure they too are feeling that deep sense of grief and shock along with the rest of us.”
