For moms, mentally compartmentalizing the day can be a superpower.
“Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast host Amanda Hirsch joined TODAY host Dylan Dreyer on the the April 23 episode of Dylan’s popular new podcast, “The Parent Chat.” The two moms discussed how they handle their day jobs … and then tackle the “second shift” at home.
”It’s like ‘Severance,’” said Dylan, referring to the hit Apple TV+ series in which corporate workers’ reality is literally cut off from their non-work reality. Dylan has three young sons.
“ I feel like I have my life that I love. I love my job. I love coming to work. I’m not thinking about my kids,” Dylan said. “And then I go home and I love being a mom. I love being with the kids, and I’m not really thinking about work. It’s like I’m living two different lives, but they’re all cohesive.”

She added, “ I talk about my kids a lot on the show, but I really enjoy when I’m not with them as much as I enjoy being with them.”
Hirsch, who has two young children, said she has grown since becoming a mom … but it hasn’t changed her completely.

“ In general, I’ve kind of matured and think about everything before I talk about it,” said Hirsch. “ I can still care about the dumb s—, even if my kid is sick at home and I’m dealing with that too.”
Like Dylan, Hirsch said she’s living “a double life” because “ I really didn’t change in my professional life, but I have that completely separate home life where it’s like, nobody cares that you just came from Sundance.”
Moms just never get applause, according to Hirsch.
“You can come from the chicest gala … and then it’s like, ‘Lenny vomited, go clean it up,’” she added.
