Julia Bradbury has made a heartbreaking admission as she opened up about the changes she has made in her life since her cancer diagnosis. The former Countryfile presenter, 55, discovered she had breast cancer in 2021 and underwent a mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction. She also had an operation to remove a 6cm tumour and chemotherapy. Since then, Julia shares regular updates on her social media, often regarding her health.

In her latest update, the TV host explained how her priorities have completely changed after realising just how precious time is, and that it is far from unlimited. “Here’s something nobody warns you about when you come through something serious,” she said in a voiceover of an Instagram post. “It ruins your tolerance for wasted time. I used to treat my days and weeks as if there would always be more of them.”

Julia added: “Then I came out the other side of something tough, counting time and days differently. Now there are three things I guard fiercely.”

In the caption, the mum-of-three penned: “I spent most of my life treating time like it was unlimited. It isn’t.

“It took coming out the other side of a serious health issue to really feel that, not just know it. Nothing audits your weeks quite like being told they aren’t guaranteed. And the odd thing is I’ve stopped spending hours I don’t have on things I never cared about.”

The presenter explained that she now lives by three key principles. Among them are spending at least 10 minutes outdoors each day and setting aside time to be completely alone, free from phones, distractions and outside noise.

Julia revealed she is now “ruthless” about who she spends her time with, therefore prioritises surrounding herself with people who make her laugh.

She added in the caption: “None of it is dramatic. It’s just deciding on purpose, instead of letting the week decide for you.”

Julia has remained candid about her health for years, and has adopted a number of lifestyle changes aimed at maintaining her overall health in an effort to reduce the risk of cancer returning.

This includes following a nutritious diet, cutting sweets out of her home and starting her day with bone broth for breakfast.
