Reacting to the news, fans paid tribute to Annette, Malcolm, and others affected by the wildfires.
“Really, really sad, condolences to all,” wrote one. “I watched that episode. Absolutely devastating for everyone in Spain, particularly Malcolm who lost his beloved wife. Thinking of you and may she RIP,” replied another.
Malcolm Timbrell, 70, and his wife Annette Kilgore, 69, had been living in the village of Bédar, which experienced devastating wildfires last week, leaving 13 people dead. In an interview with the BBC News at Six, which aired on Monday, Malcolm said: “We have had an amazing life together and now it’s stopped.

Malcolm concluded: “We are just waiting now for DNA clarification. And after that, I will probably just fall apart.”
Annette and Malcolm, who appeared on A Place in the Sun, found their home in Bédar with help from Leah Charles-King in 2022. During the episode (which aired in 2023), the couple from Cornwall fell in love with a Spanish stone cottage, which was on the market for £215,746 at the time of filming. After making an initial offer of £175,000, Annette and Malcolm eventually purchased the property for a reduced price of £200,000.
