Melanie Sykes has delivered her most emotional health update yet, admitting she is in “so much pain” as she confronts an autoimmune condition that has already left her two-thirds bald. The 55-year-old TV presenter opened up in a raw Instagram clip shared on Sunday, revealing she has been battling extreme inflammation throughout her body and struggling to cope with the ways the illness has transformed her appearance and daily life.

Bundled up in a jumper, jacket, scarf and hat, Melanie told fans she has been “living a spiritual existence” as she tries to stay grounded. Despite the constant discomfort, she encouraged followers to meditate, explaining it had become one of the few things helping her emotionally through the illness.

“I’m not well… I’ve been ill all year,” she shared, her voice wavering. “I’ve got an autoimmune condition. I’m losing my hair. I keep having inflammation all over my body, and I’m working on healing.”

Melanie revealed she had recently taken part in a meditation teacher training course but was too unwell to finish the final days of it.
“I don’t necessarily want to teach,” she said, “but I can — even though I couldn’t complete it because I was so ill.”

Alongside the video, she wrote a heartfelt caption telling fans she had returned to YouTube “after a long period of learning, meditating and healing,” adding: “Remember I love you always.”

Back in April, the star had already shared the first signs of her hair loss, posting a photo highlighting a bald spot while she was in London undergoing medical investigations.

“I am experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to everything that has happened,” she said at the time. “PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice.”

In her latest update, Melanie went further, showing the extent of her hair loss by parting sections of her hair.
“I’m experiencing alopecia in quite a significant way,” she explained. “I’ve lost inches from my hairline at the back and probably have only half my hair left.”

She also revealed she has been battling stress and severe insomnia — symptoms that have only intensified her physical and emotional exhaustion.

Melanie didn’t hesitate to voice her frustration with the UK’s healthcare system either, telling her followers she felt compelled to share “what I have learned, observed and endured.”

“This country must do better,” she said. “Our health services are utterly shocking, aside from a few rare humans who truly listen without judgement.”

Despite the overwhelming challenges, Melanie confirmed she is receiving treatment and has seen a specialist who reassured her that her hair will grow back.

Fans flooded her with messages of support, calling her “brave,” “honest,” and “heartbreakingly strong.” Many wrote that they were moved to tears hearing her admit she no longer recognises herself in the mirror.

Born in Lancashire, Melanie first rose to fame in a 1996 Boddingtons Bitter advert before becoming a familiar face on British television — from The Big Breakfast in 1997 to co-hosting the daytime series Today with Des and Mel in 2002. In 2014, she appeared on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!, finishing in third place.

Even now, decades into her career, her candid honesty continues to resonate with viewers who say they are standing firmly behind her as she faces this painful chapter.
