The Chase star Jenny Ryan has reassured fans that she’s recovering well after undergoing throat surgery, revealing a prominent scar on her neck and explaining the health issue that led to the operation.
The 44-year-old ITV quiz star took to Instagram to share a series of candid photos, telling followers she decided to address the surgery openly because the scar would be impossible to hide. Jenny revealed she underwent the procedure at University College Hospital in London after her thyroid gland became enlarged and began causing medical problems.
“My thyroid gland made a bid for fame and got so big it started causing some problems,” she quipped, explaining that doctors ultimately removed it.
Despite the operation, Jenny shared encouraging news about her recovery, confirming that the surgery was successful and that she is healing well.

Jenny has starred as The Vixen on The Chase for 11 years but prior to being on-screen she was involved in the behind the scenes of the show, writing questions since the pilot in 2009
“I’m fine. Surgery was all good and the consultant is very happy,” she wrote. “My voice still works and it’s healing nicely.”
She also joked about spending the first couple of weeks taking things easy before thanking the surgeons, nurses and staff at University College Hospital for the care they provided, praising the NHS for its support throughout her treatment.

Jenny, affectionately known as “The Vixen,” has been one of The Chase‘s beloved Chasers for more than a decade. Before stepping in front of the cameras, she also played a key behind-the-scenes role, writing quiz questions for the show’s pilot in 2009.
Her health update comes just days before the launch of ITV’s highly anticipated spin-off, The Chase Around the World, which sees host Bradley Walsh and the Chasers leave the studio behind for a globe-trotting quiz adventure.
The six-part series will send contestants racing through some of the world’s most famous cities, solving clues and answering quiz questions to stay ahead of the Chasers, with the journey beginning in Rome.
