“‘THE CRUEL PART? STEPHEN COLBERT LOOKED MORE ALIVE, MORE JOYFUL, AND MORE LOVED THAN EVER… RIGHT AS AMERICA PREPARES TO LOSE HIM.’” “You could literally see him trying not to let go,” Stephen Colbert just delivered what fans are calling one of the most emotional moments in Late Show history after David Byrne dragged him onstage for a wild, euphoric performance of Burning Down The House

During the final week of his time hosting The Late Show, Stephen Colbert ticked off a lifelong ambition to perform with David Byrne.

Colbert is bringing out all the stops during his last few episodes, ensuring that he goes out with a bang, whether this be going after CBS for firing him or sharing a stage with his musical heroes.

On May 19th, Byrne was the musical guest, performing the Talking Heads classic ‘Burning Down The House‘ while dressed in his trademark blue jumpsuit, which was, as expected, an absolute triumph.

The performance was made even sweeter when Colbert joined Byrne towards the end of the song, also dressed in the same uniform and busting out his best Byrne-esque dance moves.

Elsewhere on the jam-packed episode, Colbert welcomed fellow late-night veteran Jon Stewart on his sofa, as well as getting the low-down from Steven Spielberg about his upcoming UFO blockbuster, Disclosure Day.

In his opening monologue, Colbert didn’t hold back against Donald Trump, criticising the president over the $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponisation Fund, which he labelled as an “all-you-can-fraud buffet” and “an unprecedented level of grift.”

Colbert is set to wave goodbye to The Late Show on May 21st, with guests for his final bow being kept under wraps. However, it has been confirmed that he’ll be joined by Bruce Springsteen tonight (May 20th).

In a recent interview, Colbert explained why his firing from CBS could potentially be a blessing in disguise, saying the decision may have “saved my life”.

He elaborated, “It takes a lot of bone marrow to do the show every day, and now I’ll be stepping down with enough time, enough energy to do other things that I want to do.”
